The degree college was established in the year 1993 by the Rajya Vokkaligara Sangha and is affiliated to the Bangalore university, Bangalore, Karnataka, in the name of Srigandhadakaval First Grade College initially with Arts Course only. Thereafter, the commerce Course was started during 2004-05 . Now this college has been renamed as KEMPEGOWDA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES AND RESEARCH (KIMSR) and additional courses like BBM & BCA of Bangalore University and the post-graduate course in MBA of Mysore University was started from the academic year 2011-12.
